OIS.360 – Eight Perspectives. One System.
Rethinking Oblique Imaging for the Next Generation of 3D Mapping
The demand for high-quality 3D city models, digital twins, and realistic geospatial datasets has never been greater. Municipalities, infrastructure operators, engineering firms, and mapping professionals require increasingly detailed and accurate representations of the built environment—while simultaneously facing growing needs to reduce project costs and improve operational efficiency.
Traditional oblique aerial imaging systems have addressed this challenge through multi-camera configurations, typically combining one nadir camera with four fixed oblique cameras. While proven and effective, these systems often involve significant hardware investment, complex calibration procedures, and increased operational overhead.
The OIS.360 introduces a different approach.
Developed by GGS, the OIS.360 is an innovative oblique imaging system that combines a high-resolution nadir camera with a single rotating oblique camera capable of capturing eight perspectives during a complete imaging cycle. Instead of increasing the number of camera heads, the system maximizes angular diversity, delivering rich multi-view imagery while significantly reducing system complexity.
The result is a powerful and efficient imaging solution designed for modern photogrammetry, 3D reconstruction, digital twin generation, and emerging visualization technologies.
More Perspectives. Less Complexity.
At the core of the OIS.360 is a simple idea: reconstruction quality is increasingly driven by viewpoint diversity rather than camera count alone.
By capturing eight oblique perspectives around the aircraft track, the system creates dense multi-view datasets that provide excellent coverage of façades, rooftops, and complex urban structures. The increased angular diversity improves image connectivity and supports highly detailed 3D reconstruction workflows.
At the same time, reducing the system architecture to only two cameras offers substantial operational advantages:
- Lower acquisition and integration costs
- Reduced system weight and complexity
- Simplified calibration and maintenance
- Greater installation flexibility on a wide range of aircraft platforms
- Reduced downtime through shutterless global shutter technology
The OIS.360 is designed to help aerial survey operators maximize data quality while minimizing operational effort.
Built for Modern Reconstruction Workflows
The geospatial industry is evolving rapidly. New processing approaches such as neural rendering and Gaussian splatting place greater emphasis on dense multi-view imagery and temporal consistency than traditional workflows.
The OIS.360 is ideally suited for these developments.
By capturing multiple perspectives in rapid succession using high-speed global shutter technology, the system provides highly consistent datasets that support both traditional photogrammetric processing and next-generation reconstruction methods.
Whether generating textured meshes, digital twins, reality models, or neural-rendered environments, the OIS.360 delivers the image geometry and perspective diversity required by modern workflows.
Proven Performance
Extensive flight campaigns and processing tests have demonstrated the capabilities of the OIS.360 in real-world environments.
Validation projects conducted over urban areas achieved aerotriangulation accuracies comparable to established oblique imaging systems while maintaining stable calibration and excellent reconstruction quality across façades, rooftops, and complex structures.
The system has been successfully processed using leading photogrammetric software platforms including:
- Skyline PhotoMesh
- iTwin Capture
- Agisoft Metashape
- Pix4D
The results confirm that innovative system architectures can provide highly competitive performance while significantly reducing hardware requirements.
